  • Labrador Retriever

    The Labrador Retriever is the original water dog, with a weather resistant and waterproof coat and an "otter" tail it uses to steer like a boat's rudder when swimming. Its heavy body set and strong legs enable the Labrador Retriever to powerfully swim and run. Frequent exercise is needed to keep the Labrador Retriever dog breed healthy and occupied.

    Golden Retriever

    Golden Retrievers are heavily muscled, with a dense coat and a heavily feathered tail. These highly-trainable sporting dogs have a confident, eager and alert personality and need constant attention to be happy. Gentle and loving, the Golden Retriever makes a good family pet.
  • Yorkshire Terrier

    Basenji

    The Basenji produces an unusual yodel-like sound commonly called a "barroo", due to its unusually shaped larynx. This trait also gives the Basenji the nickname "Barkless Dog". Elegant and athletic, the Basenji is roughly the size of a fox terrier. Its tail curls off to one side of its muscular thighs. The Basenji's forehead is furrowed with wrinkles.

    The Beagle follows its nose wherever it goes and was bred for the hunt - which means baying, howling and barking. When on scent, this tenacious dog breed will block out everything around it - including you. Their charming, upbeat personalities make them excellent family pets. Snoopy, created by the late Charles Schultz, is perhaps the world's most recognized (and loved) Beagle.

    Brussels Griffon

    This sturdy toy dog has a domed head, undershot jaw and short nose. They are known to have a huge heart, and a strong desire to snuggle and be with his or her master. They display a visible air of self-importance. A Griffon should not be shy or aggressive; however, they are very emotionally sensitive, and because of this, should be socialized carefully at a young age.
  • Bernese Mountain Dog

    This dog has a black coat trimmed with symetrical markings of white and rust. The Bernese Mountain Dog's thick coat does not fare well in hot or humid climates.

    Bloodhound

    The Bloodhound is a large and powerful dog breed with wrinkled skin and drooping ears. A gentle dog breed, the Bloodhound does well with children and family pets. The Bloodhound is considered the best scent tracker of all the dog breeds and is used in many police investigations.

    The Boston Terrier is a compact, well-muscled and clean-cut dog breed who rarely sheds.     English Bulldog

    The bulldog is a breed with characteristically thick shoulders and a matching head. There are generally thick folds of skin on a bulldog's brow, followed by round, black, wide-set eyes, a short muzzle with characteristic folds called "rope" above the nose, with hanging skin under the neck, drooping lips, and pointed teeth.

    Welsh Corgi

    The Welsh corgi is a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales. Welsh Corgis are low set and long with heavy bones. They have large erect ears, fox-like tails, and are sturdy and powerful.

    Vizsla

    The Vizsla is a medium-sized dog breed, muscular but lightly built, enabling it to be fast and graceful in its gait, covering a lot of ground. The Vizsla is known to have great endurance and stamina. A very energetic dog breed, the Vizsla is happiest when he has something to do.
  • Tibetan Mastiff

    Large and powerful, the Tibetan Mastiff has thick bones and a large bear-like head with a wide blunt muzzle. Marco Polo described the Tibetan mastiff as "tall as a donkey with a voice as powerful as that of a lion." The Tibetan Mastiff has a mane and some adult males have dewlaps around the neck, while the feathered tail curls around its back.

    Standard Schnauzer

    With its whiskers, beard and eyebrows, the Standard Schnauzer has a rather intense look. This is a medium sized dog with a rectangular shaped head, and the body gives an overall square impression.
  • Springer Spaniel

    The English Springer Spaniel has a compact body, upstanding and with proud carriage. It has a docked tail. Its build suggests a combination of endurance, strength and agility. Very eager to please, the English Springer Spaniel makes a good family pet and working dog. Very affectionate, this dog breed loves everyone.

    Shar-Pei

    The Chinese Shar-Pei has a medium-sized muscular build. Its signature wrinkles on both its face and body enable it to twist away when grabbed by another dog in a fight. This dog breed was once used as a fighting dog, but now is considered a dog that is friendly and good natured despite its scowling expression.
  • St. Bernard

    The Saint Bernard is known as the "gentle giant," and is an enormous, big-boned, powerful yet friendly dog breed. The Saint Bernard is known to have a strong sense of smell and an intuitive sense with respect to potential avalanches. They were originally bred as rescue dogs working in the Swiss Alps.

    Rottweiler

    Rottweilers are a powerful dog breed with great strength, endurance and agility. An effective guard dog, Rottweilers are also dominant and pushy - and require constant training and firm, uncompromising rules. Although Rottweilers are a devoted and loyal dog breed.
  • Rhodesian Ridgeback

    The intelligent looking Rhodesian Ridgeback gets its name from the symmetrical ridge of hair on its spine growing against the grain of its coat.

    Pomeranian

    The Pomeranian is a small dog breed, a miniature spitz. It has a rounded, cobby body, an alert, fox-like expression and a signature ruff of hair around its neck. Often stubborn, the Pomeranian needs consistent training beginning at puppyhood. If correctly trained, the Pomeranian can become a good obedience dog.
  • Dalmatian

    Popular beyond what you would otherwise expect (because of the Disney movies), the Dalmatian is a strong and muscular, athletic dog breed with a great deal of energy. It is especially suited as a jogging companion due to its need for exercise.

    Doberman Pinscher

    The Doberman Pinscher dog breed has a compact, muscular and powerful body. Proud, alert, athletic, with endurance and speed. Devoted and fearless, the Doberman Pinscher is widely known as a "police dog" for its military duty during World War I.
  • French Bulldog

    With its distinctive 'bat ears" the French Bulldog is muscular and sturdy. French Bulldogs have pug noses and square flat heads.

    German Shorthaired Pointer

    The German Shorthaired Pointer is an athletic hunting dog with agility, power and endurance, and has a superior scent ability. Exercise is important for this highly energetic dog breed. German shorthaired pointers become unhappy when they are isolated from their family.
  • Great Dane

    The Great Dane is huge, well muscled and an elegant, regal dog breed. The Great Dane is very affectionate and loves to be around people. Because of its majestic carriage, it is know as the Apollo of Dogs. A Great Dane makes an excellent family pet.
  • Greyhound

    Slim and graceful, the Greyhound's streamlined body allows it to excel in running. Greyhounds have a curved spine and folded-over rose shaped ears. Their front legs are straight and their back legs are very powerful.

    Jack Russell Terrier

    The Parson Russell Terrier is a tough, small, medium-boned dog whose long legs help make it good at hunting small animals. Its slender body enables it to fit into the tiny places its quarry might try to hide. The JRT has a free and lively gait, and has a keen, alive expression. This dog breed also makes an excellent human companion and is especially active with children.
  • Lhasa Apso

    he Lhasa Apso has a long, sturdy body with a long, flowing coat, giving it a dignified, lion-like look. Small but strong, yet not particularly athletic, the Lhasa Apso dog breed is very friendly and loyal to his owner and other family members.

    Maltese

    The Maltese has a compact and petite body with a white silky coat. Gentle and affectionate, the Maltese makes an excellent companion. Well-built, with a jaunty, flowing gait that makes it appear almost to float as it moves. Alert and intelligent, this dog breed is easy to train.

    The Mastiff, who is sometimes called "English Mastiff", is a heavy-boned, muscular and powerful dog breed.     Old English Sheepdog

    Old English Sheepdogs have a shaggy fluffy coat with a warmer undercoat. They are born tailless or have the tail amputated at a young age. Old English Sheepdogs have an unusual topline which rises up from the withers to the loin. This breed can either have brown or blue eyes or one of each

    Perhaps the most widely recognized of all dog breeds (because of Lassie), The Collie is a strong, active dog breed that combines speed and strength with grace. The expression on the Collie's refined head shows alertness and intelligence.

    Cockapoo

    The Cockapoo is a hybrid, a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. It looks something like a Cocker Spaniel with a Poodle coat. Some breeders stick with the original basic Cocker/Poodle mix, while others seek to make the breed more a hybrid with multi-generational crosses. One should understand the breeder's policy in this regard.
  • Airedale Terrier

    Airedale Terriors are independent and territorial. They make good watchdogs and are knows as 'king of Terriers' Airedales are energetic and excel at hunting. They make good watchdogs because they are initially suspicious of strangers.

    Akita

    The Akita is a large and powerful dog breed with heavy bone, a muscular body and a strong, short muzzle. He has a powerful, brisk gait. Faithful and affectionate, the Akita loves human companionship.
  • Basset Hound

    The Basset Hound is known as the "Hush Puppy" dog. Heavy boned and thick bodied, the Basset Hound is a slow hunter but is capable of moving quickly. The Basset Hound dog breed is a good hunting dog and family companion who is loyal and obedient to its owner.

    Bichon Frise

    The Bichon Frisé is a small and sturdy dog breed who loves to be the center of attention. It is a merry, agile dog breed. A very friendly dog, the Bichon Frisé does extremely well with small children and other household pets.
  • Otterhounds

    This noble hound breed can be traced back to the 1100’s. They where once a favorite dog of the hunt, and were used in packs to hunt otter, hence the name. Unfortunately, after otter hunting was banned in England in the late 1970’s, these large hounds had to be re-homed from their country estates into homes as pets.
